NOID 12: Tiger head

Found in an older German auction catalogue this wonderful 1916 tigerhead print. Who ever the artist may be, I think this is one fine print. The rendering of the fur and how well the unknown printmaker choose the, just two, color blocks is quite astonishing. Please help to identify this artist and wouldn't it be  great to find more of his work. He (or she?) certainly deserves it. It could be a Ernst (Erich?) Schmid (Armid?) 1916.
Altough not as fierce a beast it could easily compete with tiger prints by Ludwig Heinrich Jungnickel (1881-1965) and Norbertine Bresslern-Roth (1891-1978).

And John Dickinson Batten (1860-1932) in the Studio 1901. There are quite a few other tigers in lino and woodblock prints shown recently in befriended Blogs (see Bloglist).
Contemporary German artist Jürgen Stieler created his tigerprint in 2010 with just one color block, an enviable achievement.

And what about Clara L. Yonge (who-ever she may have been) ? She was most probably an Australian printmaker active in the 1920's. I've showed some of the few examples of her prints before but not this print tiltled "Snarling Tiger" but is actually  a leopard.

Nancy Grant, Australian enigma

Nancy Grant

(1903/07 - in or after 1996)

Australian linocut printmaker.

Before returning and sharing the first surprising and very promising results following Witold Korzeniewicz charming steam tug in before posting today I share some examples by an enigmatic Australian printmaker that I've found in the National Gallery of Australia. The query: "tug + boat + linocut" is how I discovered them.

They were presented to the gallery by the artist in 1996. They are I believe of such artistic quality sharing them is the least I can do trying to find out some more about this very unknown printmaker. (All pictures are mouse clickable).

Additional comment:

Thanks to faithful follower Karen (see comments) it was noticed the circus and horse prints are wrongly labelled in the Museum collection (I will email them) as it was the famous WIRTH circus touring Australia and stationary in Melbourne in the first half of the twentieth century.

Sidney Long (closing)

Sidney Long1871 – 1951)
Australian painter, teacher, etcher and printer.

Completing my affair with Sidney Long I cannot withold showing his "Tranquile waters". It is the painting that made Longs name in Australia. Back in 1894. It was much discussed and talked about and led to a good deal of controversy and scandal. Because of the (homo?) erotic(?) bathing boys. But after painting and disclosing Spirit of the Planes (flute player, woods and cranes) in 1887 and Pan in 1889 he was forgiven. Through their succes he now is considered one of Australia's greatest landscape painters.
Here are some of my choosen pictures, to begin with these paintings in oil: "the morning moon",
And "reflections on McDonald River".
Inspired by Constable visiting England: "In Constable land".

And some great watercolour paintings. With some some more great trees.

Discovering nice things always making me curious and investigative. To know if there's more. Well, there was and so here are Sidney Long's flamingos.

Hope you like them. As much as I do.
